I know if I’m writing something, or if I’m acting in something, and it seems as though I’m going to deal with anything that might be kind of serious or emotional or vulnerable, it’s not uncommon to pepper it with a few jokes. I really do think that that makes it more moving. Because that’s how I would deal with my own insecurities and my own vulnerabilities. If something tragic happened in your life, you make the most off-color joke about it. I do that kind of stuff.
