I’d come onto Daisy’s set and just be there with a tropical juice, be like Yeah, good work love. Doing well. Love that stuff, love.
They call me male Beyoncé. I tell them to stop but they keep on saying it. What can I do? I accept.
Despite that it’s Star Wars and how huge it is, it’s still work to me, and that element of things grounds you, especially from nerding out a few times. Although, some days I can’t control myself. - John Boyega
It’s amazing that people still feel, ‘Oh my gosh, it’s a black guy.’ We’ve been here for a long time; let’s get used to it. Let’s get used to other cultures.
It’s so funny because I’ve watched the movie, and I related to Rey a lot. A lot. It actually surprised me how much I related to her story and who she is, and the tones and process that she goes through. So for me, that’s so good that we’re able to get different versions of relationships between audience and the cast. - John Boyega.
I’m having so much fun, because you know what? They cast a star wars fan in a star wars movie. Big mistake.
“My greatest memory was taking Harrison Ford to a Nigerian restaurant in South East London. And this guy comes up to him and says ‘Are you Harrison Ford?’ and Harrison Ford goes ‘I used to be.’”
My life has changed but I still have the separation between the Star Wars world and home, so I guess I’m lucky. It is a healthy balance. I went to Waitrose this morning and I bought a Belgian bun and nobody bothered me, it was fantastic!

People watch me when I get into these characters that I have in my head, so perhaps I should try acting. So I did.
John Boyega on bringing scripts home with him
It’s Hollywood’s fault, for letting this get so far, that when a black person or a female, or someone from a different cultural group is cast in a movie, we have to have debates as to whether they’re placed there just to meet a [quota]. I also understand, on the flip side, where these other mentalities will arise. “He’s just placed there for political correctness.” I don’t hear you guys saying that when Brad Pitt is there. When Tom Cruise is there. Hell, when Shia LaBeouf is there, you guys ain’t saying that. That is just blatant racism.
Daisy Ridley & John LMAO you’re like the last person who should be worrying about that Boyega for ASOS magazine (x)
